When Byrd volleyball coach Michelle Adamson wants to call a partial team meeting, all she has to do is yell, “Em,” and five players come running.

One of the top teams in the LHSAA’s Division I, District 1, the Lady Jackets are loaded with talent, and with a lot of Ems. There’s Emme Cehajic, Emma Day Grantham, Emma Turner, Emma Camferdam and Emly Bracey with each providing a spark in their own special way.

“Sometimes it’s a little confusing,” said Adamson, who returns all but one player off last year’s 17-13 playoff team. “I’ve had to come up with different ways to address them.”

What isn’t confusing is defending District 1 champion Ruston, which returns a lot of talent off a team that went 21-3 playoff team in 2015. Still, Adamson believes the race for the top of the heap is closer than it’s ever been.
