Wealth of baseball talent in northwest Louisiana

A wealth of baseball talent in northwest Louisiana will welcome in the spring as the 2019 prep teams hit diamonds across the area this week.
Airline catcher Hayden Travinski is one of the spotlight players hoping to return the Vikings to the top of the District 1-5A heap. The LSU signee was injured for a good portion of last season, which caused him to miss the postseason accolades. He’ll join junior Bryson Connell, who hit .351 last season in giving Viking opponents trouble throughout 2019.
Captain Shreve lost eight starters of the 2018 district championship team, so the door is open for Bossier Parish’s Airline, Parkway or Haughton to move the title back across the river.
The Panthers have plenty of pop in their lineup with four first-team All-District returnees in the lineup including Caleb Reese (.430), Amani Larry (.378), Derious Bradford (.324) and Eric Brown (.310). Byrd also has some battlers including Julien Deleon (.414) and Charlie Barham (.322). Carrying Evangel’s banner will be junior LSU-commit Blake Shapen, the Eagles’ lone returning All-District player. Haughton has Peyton Stovall and CJ McWilliams on the infield and some solid arms.

Some folks believe Benton may have a stronger team this season than the 2018 version that won the LHSAA Class 4A state title. Sam Simmons, Cole Horton, Cade Scott, Brennen Blaylock and Clint Lassiter will give Tiger fans plenty to smile about in the District 1-4A race. The return of Luke Bogan to Northwood’s lineup, plus Blakely Welch (.345), should make the Falcons a troublesome foe. The same could be said for North DeSoto with Cooper Thomas, Tanner Hill and Jackson Procell in the lineup.
Minden could also be in the 4A race with Cameron Dollar, John Volentine and Trevor McLean. Bossier offers Jon-Mikal Robertson for your consideration.
