Chris Robinson signs with East Texas Baptist University
March 14, 2018, 7:35 pm

SHREVEPORT, La. - Byrd shortstop Chris Robinson signed a letter of acceptance today with East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. Robinson signed during a ceremony held on campus at Byrd High School’s Purple and Gold Room.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to continue my baseball career while working on a degree to be an athletic trainer,” said Robinson. “ETBU has a great program for kinesiology. I'm also happy that I will continue to be grounded in God's word. ETBU is everything I was looking for at the next level.”

“We're really excited to have Chris joining us next fall here at ETBU,” said Tigers head coach Jared Hood. “Not only is he a standout athlete, but he is a young man that embraces the opportunities that ETBU provides. We look forward to having him compete on the baseball field and furthering our mission here at ETBU.”

Primarily a shortstop for Byrd coach Greg Williams the past three seasons, Robinson has seen time on the mound this season for the Yellow Jackets. He is expected to be an infielder for the ETBU Tigers.

“Chris has been a staple in our program during his four years with us,” said Williams. “He does an excellent job of being an extension of the coaching staff while on the field. Although he will be missed, we are excited for his opportunity. He has put in the time and energy needed to receive this opportunity that so many baseball players strive for.”

It should come as no surprise that Robinson will be continuing his baseball career at the collegiate level as baseball has always been a part of his life. Chris is the son of Pam and Daniel Robinson, the latter was a star baseball player at Louisiana Tech University in the early 1990s. Daniel set numerous offensive records in his Bulldog playing days and was a minor leaguer in the then Florida (now Miami) Marlins organization. Daniel played alongside many of the Marlins who won the 1997 World Series.

The Robinson’s oldest son, Andrew, who also played at Byrd, is a pitcher on the Louisiana College Wildcats baseball team. Kevin is the couple’s youngest son and he is currently playing for the Louisiana Empire 12U Majors team out of Benton. Chris also played shortstop and pitched for former Big Leaguer Todd Self on the 2017 18U Louisiana Empire team.

Chris credits Andrew with pushing him to work hard and looks forward to meeting next spring.

“Andrew and I have always been competitive with each other,” said Chris. “He has pushed me to be better over the years. Now we are just taking it to the next level. It's going to be fun and make us work harder.”

Robinson is batting .341 for Byrd and he has one save for the Jackets.
